Devonport is the 3rd largest city in Tasmania, Australia. It’s situated on the North West Coast, bordered by the Don River to the West and intersected by the Mersey River . The population is approximately 26k.
It is the main port for Spirit of Tasmania 1 & 2, vehicle ships that ferry passengers and cargo between Tasmania and the mainland. My last 2 trips on them have been calm. Crossings can become rough on occasions. I found the customer service excellent.
The climate in Devonport is relatively mild. Being situated on the coast it does not have the extreme cold or heat of Tasmania’s larger cities, Hobart and Launceston. In conclusion Devonport has a pleasant maritime climate.
The above plaque is located on the Mersey Bluff Lighthouse at Devonport. It give a brief history of the lighthouse and how it has been powered over the years.
The above image is of the Mersey Bluff Lighthouse at Devonport in Tasmania . Built in 1889 it was first powered by kerosene and gradually updated over the years as per the information in the plaque image above. I think the red stripes set it off nicely and produces an attractive image.
The above image is overlooking Devonport City and Bass Strait from North St. It provides a picturesque view of part of the city, Bass Strait and the entrance to the Mersey river.
